Well ok, here it is. This silly fellow and the birds have been torturing me for about three weeks now off and on, so it's time to let them fly.
This is all Corel Painter oils, a couple of blenders, pencil for the initial sketches. I tried working in a lot of secondary light, and big focus differences just to see what it would do. It took me something like fifteen hours total. It's not as I had seen it in my head, and his right arm still has issues. But I learned a ton doing it and am looking forward to applying that in future. The figure and face was started because I wanted to do an aged portrait, but ended up with a lot of green leaves and flowers due to |

Wow...where to begin for feedback? First I want to reiterate that I love the choice you made for the age and body type of the person. Although it is not what is incessantly portrayed as the "standard" model in popular media, it is more realistic, and still beautiful.
I think the most impressive part is the work you did on shadowing. The greenery at first seems somewhat abstract, but when the eye takes in the shadows, it gives a whole new dimension to the piece.
The detail in the flower that he is selecting is a nice change of focusI can see the changes that you referred to and it really does incourage the viewer to take their time when looking at the picture.
Okay...this is getting very long, but I can tell that you put a lot of time in this and it shows. Great job!
Talent.

Regarding the age/body type... I'm probably going to launch into a series of imperfect-person paintings. There are literally thousands of perfect-bodied smooth-skinned people submitted to dA on a daily basis -- nothing wrong with perfect people mind you... though I guess that's the problem, they're not real. So, here's to real people!
I guess I've already given feedback, but I'll say again that it's great! Of course, I don't think any artist is ever 100 percent satisfied with their work (as you eluded to above), but the advancement of your skill shines through in this. I'm happy to feature it!
